How Grooms Spend the Morning of Their Wedding

Grooms Spend

Most brides spend the morning of their wedding hanging out with their bridesmaids, sipping coffee or mimosas, and getting pampered and glam prior to their walk down the aisle. But what about the guys? How do grooms spend the morning of their wedding? After all, most don’t take nearly as long to get ready, and are left with quite a bit of time on their hands.

To find out, Brides asked real grooms how they spent the hours before their ceremony. From last-minute errands to cocktails and everything in between, here’s how grooms spend the morning of their wedding.

“I woke up, showered, shaved. Then ordered room service and watched TV until I realized I lost my tie, so a few of us had to run out to the nearest mall to get a new one. Then we came back and I wrote my vows on a piece of a notebook paper.” —Scott, 32 [Read more…] about How Grooms Spend the Morning of Their Wedding

How to Return Wedding Gifts You Know You’ll Never Use

Return Wedding Gifts

When your wedding is all said and done, you’ll hopefully be left with a handful of good memories, a couple hundred photos, and a pile of gifts. As you’re ripping off the wrapping paper and uncovering the items that your guests have given you, you might notice that some of those gifts will never be used, cared for, or looked at again.

So what should you do with the gifts that you’re most likely going to bury underneath a pile of things you never use in your garage or shoved in the back of a closet? You should try to return them to get money or get something else from the store that you’ll actually use instead.

Here’s how you can return your unwanted wedding gifts. The best part is, the people who gave you the gift never have to know.

Sort Through Gifts ASAP

When the wedding ends, you’re going to feel tempted to want to sit back and relax, taking time off to recover from all things wedding. But before you kick your feet up and catch up on your favorite TV shows, the very first thing you should do is rip open the wrapping paper on your wedding gifts. Start sorting the items you received into two piles: a keep pile and a return pile.

If you received a lot of registry gifts at your bridal shower, be sure to separate them into piles right after as well.

After you’ve made your piles, start taking action. Examine the gifts in your return pile. Do you have a gift receipt for them? Do you know where they were purchased? To meet most store’s return policies, you want to bring items back within the month they were gifted to you. That way, you have a better chance at getting money back or a store credit.

Look Up the Store’s Return Policy

If you have a receipt for the gift, look up to see how long you have until you can no longer return it. Some stores give money back within 30 days and then after that, give store credit.

If you find that you don’t have a receipt for the gift, but you know exactly where it was purchased, it’s worth taking the item to the store, asking to speak with a manager, and explaining that it was given to you as a wedding gift. Stores like Nordstrom, Macy’s, Target, and TJ Maxx, have a reputation for being great with returns or working with customers who don’t have a receipt. Usually, they can scan the barcode on the item, see when it was purchased, and give you the amount that the item is valued at now (if it was purchased months or even years ago).

Ask the Gift Giver for More Information

Sometimes, after your wedding ends, you find that you are left with a pile of gifts that you have no idea where they were bought. If they end up in your return pile, strike up a conversation with the gift giver to inquire about more information. Casually ask them where they bought it from so that you can investigate the return policy.

Swap It, Sell It, Store It to Regift

If you’re finding yourself eyeballing a dead end when trying to return a specific item that you just don’t want, you might want to resort to getting your money back or your money’s worth in other ways. If you’ve been given a gift card you know you’ll never use, you can swap it for another one using a website like Cardpool. You can also sell your gifts on Facebook Marketplace or using the website Tradsey. Or, if you’ve received a gift that you know you can’t use, but someone else would adore, you can store it away to regift for someone’s next birthday, holiday, or wedding gift.

Evening Wedding Ceremony

Couple’s often discount evening ceremony as too late a start, but if you’re open to the idea of a shorter reception (or one that goes later into the night) and lots of time spent in twinkly candlelight, this could be the best option of all. Here, seven reasons why brides and grooms should give an evening wedding ceremony some serious thought. [Read more…] about 7 Benefits of Having an Evening Wedding Ceremony

50 Questions to Ask Wedding DJs and Bands

Wedding DJs

Ian Challenger Tilghman/The Dart Collective

Every wedding day has a soundtrack of its own—from the walk down the aisle to the first dance, the bouquet toss to your final farewell, music helps set the tone for the entire day … which is why your DJ or band has such an important role. To help you better vet the candidates, we’ve compiled this master list of questions to ask wedding DJs and band.

The Basics

First things first, you’ve got to figure out the basics … like, is the DJ or band even available on your desired date. The answers to the following questions will help you get a sense of how experienced the candidates are.

  1. Is my wedding date available?
  2. How long have you been doing this professionally?

Why you need to know this: Obviously, there’s a difference between volunteer gigs and legit, paid performances. Make sure your candidates are seasoned so there are no hiccups on the most important day of your life!)

  1. How many weddings have you played?
  2. How long have you been performing together (if you’re interviewing a band)?
  3. How many weddings do you do in an average weekend?

Why you need to know this: If the band or DJ is playing ’round the clock all weekend, they’re performance might suffer. If they’re running on empty, you might want to rethink booking them.

  1. Do you perform at more than one event in a day?
  2. Will you be the DJ/bandleader personally be playing at our wedding? Which band members should we expect?

Why you need to know this: Bands usually have a roster of performers, and might alternate who’s playing based on their availability. If you’re choosing a band based because you love one musician or singer in particular, make sure they’re the performer who will actually be playing your wedding.

  1. Have you done events at my wedding venue?
  2. What sets you apart from your competition?
  3. Can you describe your style?
  4. Are there any other services that you provide, such as lighting design or a photo booth?
  5. Can you provide me with recent couples that I can contact for references?

The 4 Wedding Planning Lists Every Bride Should Maintain at All Times

January 3, 2018 by aaadmin Leave a Comment

Budgets, guest lists, important dates, to-do lists, and more can flood your mind and make what should be a fun and exciting time feel quite the opposite. Don’t worry—thanks to digital documents and smartphones, you can stay up-to-the-minute organized in an easy way, keep everything you need to know on you at all times—and ultimately save your sanity. Enjoy wedding planning a little bit more by keeping these four running lists.

Guest List & RSVPs
Once the dreaded initial draft of the guest list has been decided upon, create a Google Doc or something similar that is editable and instantly saved and shared and that includes names, guests, and addresses. You’ll be grateful you’ve done this on a few occasions: once it comes time to assemble and mail invitations, as you track RSVPs as they come in, and when it becomes time to make the seating arrangements.

To-Do
All Type-A’s out there, rejoice—this one’s for you. Every single bride should keep a running list of tasks, even if she has enlisted the help of a wedding planner or coordinator. If you usually think nothing is more satisfying than crossing things off your to-do list, it’s 10 times better for overwhelmed brides-to-be. Whether you prefer to go old-school and use a trusty notebook or keep an app for your planning needs, as long as you have one, you’ll be organized and accomplished daily.

Gifts Received

While traditionally your maid of honor or bridesmaid will be tasked with writing down what you receive and from whom at your bridal shower, you will likely receive gifts outside of that occasion too. As a gracious and thankful bride, keep a running list so that writing out thank-you cards is a bit less overwhelming. It’s also great to save this list as an upcoming reference for when you’re a wedding guest!
