There are a few very important factors to look for when it comes to selecting the right wedding planner for you. It’s important to know that not every wedding planner will be the perfect fit. You must ensure that your personalities match. You want to be clear on the services that you need (ex., Full Planning, Partial Planning, Wedding Management). It is important to make sure that the planner is actually an experienced professional.
Here are some questions to think about
Is there an online presence available for their company?
Does this planner have any reviews out there from real clients?
Do they have a portfolio either online or in person when your meet?
Are we a Match?
So let’s talk about the personalities meshing. You have to understand that you and your wedding planner will be spending a lot of time together and you will rely on this planner to help you make important decisions. You will have to trust their professional guidance. So, if there is something that you are interested in, yet the planner is advising against it, you will have to be completely comfortable with their advice. I’ve had a few clients where our personalities just did not match at all and it is very difficult to have a great professional relationship. And honestly, planning their event was just not fun. I have learned that if we don’t mesh personality wise, then it’s best not to take that person on as a client and refer them elsewhere.
Online presence for wedding planners
Let’s talk about online presence. We understand the need for social media, but often wedding planners can be extremely busy. This is especially true during the heavy wedding season. Therefore, sometimes there is a delay in posting events online. A good wedding planner is focused on the event, outcome and happy clients which trumps a social media image. We also understand the importance, so we do incorporate positing into our rotation. I personally tend to focus and update on one outlet.
I will admit, when having 30 events per year, it’s gets a bit tough to post on all social media outlets. However, my outlet of choice for consistency is Instagram. I encourage you to look in different areas for your prospective wedding planners work. Last, as you continue you online research and presence, take a look on Wedding Wire or The Knot.com for reviews on their company.
